Bournemouth University endorses MYTIME Young Carers Employability Programme

22nd Sep 2023

Bournemouth University (BU) has announced its endorsement of the MYTIME Young Carers Employability Programme

MYTIME Employability Programme for young carers

Our Employability Programme includes tailored workshops, career mentorship, and interview practice to equip young carers with essential employability skills as they think about the next steps after school. The programme is tailored to the unique challenges faced by young carers and helps to boost their confidence and communication skills, supporting their future ambitions.

Emma Fry, Interim Head of Programmes at MYTIME Young Carers, said: “We are thrilled to have Bournemouth University as a partner in this important initiative. Their commitment to empowering young carers aligns perfectly with our mission, and together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of these inspiring individuals.”

Educational providers such as Bournemouth University can provide much-needed recognition and support for young carers. On average, young people who provide informal, unpaid care to family members or others outside their household are 38% less likely to obtain a university degree than their counterparts with no caring responsibilities (University College London, 2023[1]).

As part of their BU2025 strategic plan, Bournemouth University is committed to making a meaningful impact on the community. Through this partnership, BU aims to support inclusive environments that enable achievement for all.

Rebecca Oliver, BU’s Senior Schools Liaison & Partnerships Manager, said: “Our collaboration with MYTIME aligns with our vision and values as we strive to create a more inclusive society where every individual can thrive. We are immensely proud to sponsor the MYTIME Young Carers Employability Programme and contribute to the development of these remarkable young people.”

We are really looking forward to working together to level the playing field for young carers. You can read more about our Employability Programme here.
