A Walk to Remember: Celebrating the MYTIME Partnership with Frettens Solicitors

25th Sep 2024

On 7th September, we witnessed a truly remarkable event that left a lasting impression on all involved – a sponsored walk organised by our valued partner, Frettens Solicitors. What began as a 20-mile journey from Frettens’ office in Christchurch to the MYTIME Young Carers retreat centre in Worth Matravers turned into a nearly 25-mile trek, becoming much more than just a physical challenge. The day stood as a testament to the power of community, resilience, and the strength of our growing partnership.

Challenges and Triumphs: A Day to Remember

The day began with great optimism. Around 20 members of the Frettens team set off early, full of enthusiasm as they wound their way through the stunning countryside towards Old Harry Rocks. Spirits were high, the weather appeared to be on their side, and the energy was contagious. Laughter and conversation filled the air as the group made steady progress, enjoying the beauty of Dorset's picturesque hills and cliffs.

However, as they approached Swanage, the weather took a sharp turn. Heavy rain became their constant companion, and the paths quickly turned treacherous and slippery. The once hardy Purbeck tracks transformed into a slippery endurance, almost resembling a mud-filled adventure course. Yet, no one from the Frettens team was deterred. Everyone pressed on with determination, supporting each other along the way.

What could have been an overwhelming challenge became an opportunity to reflect on the resilience of the young carers we support. Many of them face daily obstacles far greater than muddy paths or aching legs. Their challenges come with no end in sight, as they balance caring for their families with their education and personal lives.

Reaching Worth Matravers and the MYTIME Retreat Centre, soaked through and exhausted, brought an immense sense of accomplishment. But it also served as a humbling reminder of why we do what we do—to ensure young carers never feel alone in their struggles.

Frettens Solicitors: A Partner Like No Other

Frettens Solicitors, a firm known for their outstanding reputation and reliability, play a crucial role in supporting MYTIME. Our partnership goes beyond financial contributions; it is a collaboration built on shared values, genuine care for the community, and a strong desire to make a lasting impact. As Matthew Fretten, Managing Partner at Frettens, explained:

“We believe that all our staff want to feel like they are making a difference not just at work, but in their community. So the partnership with MYTIME gives the staff an outlet to do that and to help young carers who need support every day."

We’ve long admired Frettens for their professionalism and community spirit, and this walk reaffirmed just how fortunate we are to have them as partners. As Matthew Fretten further noted:

“The MYTIME team’s dynamism, energy, and creativity drive us to do more. They’ve inspired us to maximise the charity’s exposure and make a real impact."

From the Frettens team, Jenny Williams, who meticulously organised the Sponsored Walk, deserves special recognition. The team of 20 participants, led by Lewis Barr, showed leadership and unwavering support throughout, exemplifying what true corporate partnership looks like.

In addition to raising over £1,300 during this walk, and all funds from Frettens, our partnership has raised awareness about the needs of young carers and has demonstrated the incredible things that can be achieved when local businesses and charities unite.

Mutual Benefits and Lasting Impact trough Partnership

Frettens don’t just participate in supporting MYTIME – they actively contribute through events, corporate activities, and volunteering. An essential part of their engagement is encouraging staff to dedicate time to charity work, which has truly transformed the workplace atmosphere, increasing community spirit, compassion, and mutual support – all crucial elements of any successful business.

Lewis Barr, Marketing and Commercial Partner at Frettens Solicitors, said:

“We went in with fairly high expectations and hopes of what we could achieve with the partnership, and they've certainly been exceeded in the time that we've worked with MYTIME. They have been really supportive in inviting us to be part of their growing network of other businesses, and we've made some really valuable connections through that. That's an additional benefit we didn't anticipate when we first entered the partnership."

Lewis Barr also mentioned:

“I speak to a lot of people in the local business community, and the comparison now versus three years ago is quite stark. I think a lot of people know about Frettens and what we do because of the partnership and the work we’ve done with MYTIME."

Indeed, activities like golf, football, tennis, and numerous corporate championships and networking events have become regular features of the collaboration, bringing together Frettens’ staff, MYTIME volunteers, and other corporate partners. It’s not just work—it’s fun, filled with laughter, interaction, and boundless energy.

Looking Forward

This walk was more than just another event; it was a powerful reminder of how much can be achieved when a dedicated team is driven by shared values. On behalf of the entire MYTIME team, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Frettens Solicitors for their incredible support and commitment to improving the lives of young carers. You didn’t just organise a wonderful walk—you continue to inspire us, showing that business and charity can go hand in hand.

As we near the end of our third year of partnership, it’s clear that the relationship between MYTIME and Frettens is more than just a corporate partnership—it’s a testament to what can be achieved when local businesses and charities unite for a common cause.

For companies considering a similar partnership, Lewis Barr offers this advice:

“Any business looking to make a difference should seriously consider working with MYTIME. The opportunities for volunteering, making a real impact, and having fun while doing it are limitless."
